Restarting

There are a lot of times in life when you lose track of your goals, get out of your routine, or go through a slump.  Guess what?… That’s fine!  It is perfectly normal and to be expected to go through periods where you have a dip from what you want.  Especially when you try to make major life changes.  The challenge doesn’t come from avoiding these periods were you fall off from your goals.  It comes from restarting when you inevitable get derailed.

There are many times in life I have had lofty goals that I have chased.  Take eating healthy and exercising.  There are many times when I get eager and ready to work on these habits.  I will go for a week, month, or longer where I am doing awesome…. then a cold hits, a vacation comes up, work gets crazy, or any of the vast ways life interferes.  These set backs happen where you get thrown in a rut.  That’s life.  The challenge that most people face is that they never restart or refocus back towards there goal.

It can often seem overwhelming when you face a setback.  It feels like you have to start over from zero again and these mental barriers keep us from even trying.  That is the mentality that has to change.  You need to accept that you hit a setback, but don’t let it stop you from continuing to move forward.  These are the times when you need to dig deep and restart, refresh, and refocus your energy back towards your goals.  Once you develop this mindset, you will be able to overcome the obstacles of life quicker every time.

Remember; setbacks are going to happen… but when they do, restart your goals and continue working towards a better life.

Juggling Plans, Desires, Family, Work, and Friends

You can do anything, but not everything

It can seem like a three ring circus juggling act to keep up with all of the different commitments we have going on all day everyday.  Keeping up with plans you’ve made with a friend, while a work assignment is pressing, as a family member has a crises can seem impossible at times.  This quickly becomes overwhelming and difficult to handle.  But it is not impossible.

With a little perspective these issues can be worked out.  Although not always easy, it does become manageable to see through the maze and learn how to find time to deal with all of the pressing issues in your life.  When things become stressful and seem to be piling up, it is crucial to take a step back and use a little perspective.  By rising above the day to day issues in your life and looking at everything you have on your plate, it becomes easier to manage.

This vantage point allows you to see the whole picture.  That work assignment you were buried in can quickly change to a mild task that can be broken down and finished in pieces throughout the week.  You’re able to realize how important family is, and eagerly spare time to be there for a family member who needs support.  From this perspective, you might also realize that there are time wasters that you are filling up your plate with that are really not important.  Once you notice those tasks, you can remove them in order to focus on what really matters.

As the stress levels begin to decrease through an increased perspective, you will realize you had a bigger plate then you thought.  That you are able to handle more then you were aware of.  The overwhelming nature of your schedule, can be calmed into simple tasks that you can confidently overcome.  By looking at the whole picture; you can see how everything fits together, and you will know what to do.

How to Create 17 New Habits this Year

It is difficult to create a new habit in our already busy lives.  It may seem impossible at times, especially if you’re trying to implement a good habit.  Like most people, I’m sure there are things you wish you were doing better in your life; eating better, saving more, working out, ext.  And, like most people; I’m sure you’ve tried.  For some reason or another, these new changes never seem to stick with you.  Well that is all about to change.  I am going to show you how to create lasting changes that will become habits and part of your daily life.

  1. Commit

The first thing you must do is commit to the change you want to implement.  If you don’t make a commitment to changing, it will never happen.  You cannot simply hope that it’ll happen one day.  The decision needs to be made to make this change a priority, and commit yourself to making it happen.

  1. Take Action

Without action, nothing happens.  Once you have made the commitment to change, you need to take action to make it happen.  Do not try to overdo it all in one shot, but you need to make the small steps towards your goal.

  1. Focus on the Results

A focus on results will keep you motivated.  This will remind yourself why you need to fight through the inconveniences and see this through.

  1. One Change at a Time

Trying to make too many changes all at once will leave you overwhelmed and stuck.  Staying committed to only one new habit at a time, and putting all of your energy into this one change will make the difference in creating a habit or not.

  1. Stick With It! (for 21 days)

It takes 21 days to form a habit.  Being committed, taking action, and focusing on the results of one change with all of your energy for 21 days will create a new habit in your life.  It will get difficult at times, you will want skip a day, or take a break.  If you resist those urges and stick with it, you will achieve your goals.

Those are the steps that it will take for you to create a new habit in your life.  Since it takes 21 days to form a habit, if you keep working towards making new positive changes; you will be able to form 17 new habits every year (with 8 days to spare).  Think about how much better your life will be if you are consistently working to make these positive changes.

Get Started With Your Life

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.  The second best time is now.”  -Chinese Proverb

There are things all of us wish we had right now.  Whether it is to have more money, be in better shape, own a house, or any number of things.  There will always be things in our life that we wish we had.

The bad news is… in order to have what we want, we would have needed to start working towards that goal awhile ago to get it today.  The good news is… we can start working towards those objectives today.  It is not too late to begin going after everything you want in life.

It’s true that immediate gratification might not come your way; but that doesn’t mean you can’t get what you want.  Instead of being frustrated with what you don’t have today, be optimistic about the opportunity to achieve it tomorrow.  If you wish you were in better shape, all it takes in a little commitment and focus towards that goal.  You can begin taking the proper steps to working out and eating right.  YOU HAVE TO STAY COMMITTED.  If you do this, these small changes over time will lead you to the body you wish you had today.

The same holds true for money.  If you wish you had more money, were out of debt, or had the freedom to live comfortably; you can achieve this.  You can begin putting 10% or 20% of your paychecks directly towards your long term savings.  You can begin reading and studying financially beneficial books.  These changes won’t make you rich in a day, but it will put you on the track to where you want to go, IF YOU STAY COMMITTED.

Do not waste any more time being upset about the things you do not have in your life.  Instead smile! with enthusiasm about the opportunity to work towards these goals so that you have a better life tomorrow.
